Protejiendo Nuestras Raíces: Un Proyecto de Salma Anguiano

A documentary film screening featuring anonymous migrant workers in the Walla Walla Valley.
Saturday, May 7 at 4:30pm at Gesa Power House Theatre

FREE EVENT! City councilman Gustavo Reyna will facilitate an interview with Salma Anguiano before the film screening. Food and refreshments will be served afterward.

Growing up in a migrant working community Salma Anguiana often saw many injustices and unsafe working conditions faced by people in her community. During her first year of college, Anguiana embarked on a journey to advocate for the community she grew up in. She formed Protejiendo Nuestras Raices, and began advocacy efforts to address the unsafe working conditions that people like her parents faced in the workplace. Through this effort she also hoped tocreate spaces for people in our communities to speak their truths.

The event is cosponsored by the Walla Walla Immigrant Rights Coalition (WWIRC), the Colectivo de Arte Social, The Listeners Project: Queremos Escucharte, the Whitman College and Northwest Archives, the Associated Students of Whitman College, Project Pericles, and Hernandez Immigration Law, LLC.

WW County Fair Parade @ Downtown Walla Walla
Sep 3 @ 10:00 am

March in the parade with other WW County Democrats!

We’re going to be a mighty group marching under the Walla Walla County Democratic Party banner on Saturday Sept. 3rd at 10 am when the traditional Walla Walla County Fair parade travels on Alder and Main streets in downtown Walla Walla.  Democrats will be marching together – bring the family – wear blue!  There will be signs about candidates and encouraging people to “Vote Blue in 2022”!

We will assemble at 9:00 a.m. on S. 8th Ave. between Poplar and Alder, and the parade will start at 10:00. If you bring a lawn chair to use while marchers assemble, we will have pickup trucks close by where you can leave it during the parade. For more information, contact M’lisse Moerk at 509-525-3048.

Let’s have a show of strength and enthusiasm – it’s going to be fun!

You can find a signup sheet for marching in the parade here.
